The short version
- CalChime reads your Google Calendar so it can set alarms on your iPhone. It cannot change your calendar.
- Your calendar details stay on your iPhone. There is no CalChime server and no account with us.
- We do not sell your data, show you ads, track you, or use your data to train AI.
- If you buy CalChime Pro, Apple takes the payment. We never see your card details, and nothing from your calendar is involved.
- You can sign out, remove the alarms or delete the app whenever you like.
1. Who we are
CalChime is an iPhone app published on the App Store by Benjamin Haberman under the Confidere name (“Confidere”, “we”, “us”). If you have a question about this policy or about your data, email ben@confidere.biz.
This policy covers the CalChime app. The confidere.biz website, including this page, is covered by the Confidere website privacy policy.
2. What CalChime accesses from Google
CalChime works with Google Calendar. When you sign in with Google, the app asks for read-only access to the following, and nothing else:
- Your list of calendars, so you can choose which ones get alarms.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.calendarlist.readonly - The events on your calendars, so the app knows when to set an alarm and what to call it. From each event it keeps the title, the start time and the name of the calendar it is on.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events.readonly - Basic sign-in information. Signing in with Google shares your basic profile with the app. CalChime uses your Google account ID and your email address, to keep you signed in and to show in Settings which account is connected.
Both calendar permissions are read-only. CalChime cannot create, change or delete anything in your calendar. It does not ask for access to your Gmail messages, contacts, files or any other part of your Google account.
3. How it is used
For two things only, both on your iPhone:
- to show your upcoming events inside the app; and
- to set iPhone alarms for the timed events in the calendars you chose (at the event’s start, or 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes before).
That is the whole list. Your Google data is not used for anything else.
4. Where it is stored
On your iPhone, and only there. The event details CalChime keeps (title, start time and calendar name) are saved in the app’s own storage on your phone. Your Google sign-in is kept on the phone too, so you do not have to sign in every time you open the app.
There is no CalChime server and you do not create an account with us. The app talks to Google directly from your phone. Nothing from your calendar is sent to Confidere, so we never see it and have no copy of it.
The details stay on your phone until you remove them. Section 7 explains how.
6. Apple’s role
CalChime’s alarms are scheduled through Apple’s alarm system on your iPhone. So that an alarm can show which event it is for, the app hands that system the event’s title and the time the alarm should ring. This happens on your phone.
7. Removing your data and revoking access
You are in control, and you do not need to ask us:
- Sign out in the app. Open CalChime, go to Settings and tap Sign out of Google. CalChime forgets your Google sign-in and the events saved on your iPhone. Alarms that are already set will still ring until you remove them.
- Remove the alarms. In Settings, tap Remove CalChime alarms. This removes the alarms CalChime set. Your calendar and your other iPhone alarms are not touched.
- Delete the app. Deleting CalChime from your iPhone removes the app and everything it stored there. To be sure no alarms are left behind, remove the alarms first.
- Revoke access at Google. Go to myaccount.google.com/permissions, choose CalChime and remove its access. After that the app can no longer read your calendar unless you connect it again.
Because nothing from your calendar is held by us, there is nothing on our side to delete. If you are unsure about any of this, email ben@confidere.biz and we will help.
8. Purchases
CalChime is free to use. CalChime Pro is an optional paid upgrade, sold inside the app as a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.
Apple takes the payment. You buy with your Apple Account, and Apple handles your card or other payment method. CalChime never asks for, sees or stores your payment details.
RevenueCat keeps the record of what you bought. So that the app knows whether you have CalChime Pro, it uses a service called RevenueCat, which works on our behalf. RevenueCat receives:
- a random identifier that the app creates on your phone. It is not your name, your email address or your Google account;
- your CalChime purchase records from Apple: which plan you bought, when, and whether it is still active; and
- the technical details that any app sends when it contacts a server, such as your IP address and the versions of the app and of iOS.
RevenueCat does not receive your calendars, your events, your Google account ID or your email address. We can see the purchase records in RevenueCat, listed under that random identifier. We cannot tell whose they are unless you tell us, for example when you email us for help with a purchase. RevenueCat’s own handling of data is described in its privacy policy.
The app also keeps a note on your phone of whether you have CalChime Pro, so that it keeps working without a connection.
9. Children
CalChime is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, for example by emailing us, tell us at ben@confidere.biz and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a change affects how CalChime uses your Google data, we will tell you in the app and ask you to agree before the change applies to you.
